My son used to travel with Broadway shows and his job was props, lighting and sound. This meant that he had to supervise the roadies.
One of the shows he supported played the Military Academy at West Point. We met him there. He said, “Man, these guys are great. They show up on time, they’re sober and they do everything you ask them to do.” I informed them that they were cadets, were used to taking orders and if they were anything other than on time or sober, they’d hear about it in a very unpleasant way.
I drummed with the Buddy Parker Band for 25 years. After the first five years together we finally could afford a roadie who also was good at running sound. His name was Oscar. We got so spoiled, that one evening Buddy said, “If Oscar quits, I quit.”
Really? Bring him to your next sales presentation and see if they potential buyers are impressed… (but at least your sound equipment will sound fantastic!)

How do you know when a CEO is about to say something smart? When they start a sentence with “A roadie once told me….”

As a former roadie, I must agree – we are far cooler (and, in general, smarter, funnier, and harder working) than any personal assistant.
