Dad: I'm the father of a teen girl. Thinking of reasons to say "no" is what I do. Mom: Well, I think it's time for Luann to have her own car. You're always telling her to grow up. So let her. Dad: That's "eat your veggies" grow up. Not "get a car" grow up.

For some reason I think mom is more allowing to Luann than to Brad.

and may I add that luann was not nearly as bratty about the car as I expected – like with the ear-piercing.

I think that is the core conflict of every good parent. The sitcom Reba did the same thing in it’s final season.
