And listen, tell everyone bye for me, ok? I'll miss all my friends here. 'Specially you" Luann: "I'll miss you too, Quill. So... I won't see you again?" Quill: "Sure! Every night in your passionate dreams!" Luann: "I'm already starting to miss you less"

Quill handles this just too well. We won’t miss him. Let’s have SOMEBODY break the ice. Knute & Crystal – heat it up!

Quill is really turning into a schmuck.
Thought he might be a class act, but guess not…

I’m wondering if this is some sort of setup…that Quill’s NOT leaving, and something else is in the works…..

i dunno. if quill were truly a lightweight…he’d have gone after all too willing and excessively available tiffany. there’s stuff going on here.

He seems to be handling it with maturity.Goodbyes do not have to be wrapped in drama. He hasn’t been nasty and he kept his cool. What’s wrong with that?
luannfan5ever over 12 years ago
Luann and Quill seem to be really heartbroken and upset about this NOT
Sisyphos over 12 years ago
“And so they said good-bye and parted forever”? Either this is the rather cold wrap-up of the whole Quill-Luann saga, or Revelation and Reversal are yet to come. I’m betting on the latter….

Come on guys, don’t get crazy. This only a dream. Luann will wake up and continue to chase Quill. She still needs to grow up.

as long as Greg wants to keep Lue 16, she will not grow up

At least Quill did not “go with the flow” and get into Tiffany’s pants. That would have surely been way too obvious.

I wish Luann could catch a break with a boyfriend. All well, who will be next?
imbaldeagle over 12 years ago
Doesn’t look like they’re too broken up – must’ve been “just friends” after all. Even fellas take it harder than this – too unrealistic. It’s like they both think this won’t be a long separation.
TheSkulker over 12 years ago
This is totally out of character for Quill. He has been portrayed as a person of character and maturity – he saw thru Tiffany’s ploys and kept his bargan with Luann. Now he is suddenly cold and somewhat mean to her.
This whole ending arc is very unrealistic and bad story telling. Unless you’re running from the law no one is going to suddenly leave a multi-year project on ten minutes notice. Nor would time be so short that one has to immediately stop everything and start packing. If an author is going to develope a character and expect his readers to continue supporting his work, then the character has to be consistent.

How many more days is the going to drag on? The horse is dead!
Cardhu over 12 years ago
I agree that this interaction is completely unrealistic. Every relationship in Luann is being portrayed completely unrealistically. Unless this strip starts going somewhere that makes sense, I’m losing interest.
Burnside217 over 12 years ago
I think someone could write a paper on the reactions here over the last couple of weeks. The comments have become more interesting then the strip itself. There could even be a book in this… We just need a good title.

He has a week to prepare for the move and can’t find any time to see her? Does he have a pregnant girlfriend somewhere?
Cofyjunky over 12 years ago
Quill is all flash and flirt, with no heart or sensitivity. Good riddance. Not to say Luann isn’t just as much to blame. That’s what you get for procrastinating through life.
jsellison over 12 years ago
So what was the point of the Quill character? Or is Greg just reluctant to move Luann into something more than a bundle of teenage nerves and insecurities?
kenvilkid over 12 years ago
Carnac the Magnificent predicts: that in the future they will meet up after each are married and have a wild, ravenous affair. And while they are in a lovers embrace Gunther (yes Gunther) Luann’s husband, will shot them both !!! Okay, that will never happen, but it is more exciting that what is goin on now.
Dragongirl2319 over 12 years ago
I don’t like how every time something “bad” happens, Luann and Quill are always like, “Oh! Whatever. If we joke and banter, everything will turn out ok!”
lynchmother over 12 years ago
Yes, LuAnn is way too accepting of the situation!
Kydex29 over 12 years ago
What disappoints me (and I’m rarely disappointed, Greg! (c:) is that Luann seems to think the lesson here is to date while the dating’s good, without thinking so much about the consequences. Not the way my wife and I were raised. Am I missing something?
sandigilbo over 12 years ago
Not only is he dissing Luann, she has to say goodbye FOR HIM to HIS friends? C’mon, Man !?!?
Talker123 over 12 years ago
Guy is painted as a real cold fish. Seems inconsistent with the previous image. Had to see Luann, did not want to record a song, just wanted to see her. Turns it all off and walks away. The two do not match up. Poor ending
MrsETPerry over 12 years ago
Obivously the background is playing some trick in this and they both should have went out on a date before he left. Took some pics and he can tell all his “friends” farewell himself. Wow you guys got on here at 1? must be differ time zones okey.
scooter_1977 over 12 years ago
Once again I mention that this arc grew tiresome the minute Mr. Evans decided to write out Quill and that was a week ago. We really need to move on to something more interesting, yes I know Luann is the main character of the strip but he writes such LAME scenarios for her, we’ve already seen this exact same storyline with her with Aaron Hill! I’d be really interested in seeing how Toni and Brad are doing…THEY are the interesting storyline in this strip at the moment!
tubgrape over 12 years ago
Hmmmm. Something is not right here. Is this Quill really who we think he is? Or is he older and on a CIA mission? He is too smooth for an adolescent, don’t you think? C’mon, now. I’ve taught teenagers for 45 years and Quill is too good to be true.
tubgrape over 12 years ago
I mean, good ole Quill seemed to have NO hormone rushes, no moodiness, and had all the right lines all the time for everyone. Doncha think?

Luann and Quill probably just see that there’s really not a whole lot they can do about this except move on. Realistically, they both have lives to live. After all, Luann’s about to get a fresh new start in college. How many new guys do you think she’s going to meet there and probably fall for? Sure, this move sure hurts them now, but sobbing all over each other won’t help. They can keep in touch, but otherwise, this is just something they need to accept and move on. And I think they’re handling it well.

I don’t understand the bitching. This is right along the lines of their relationship. It’s cute, they are doing the repartee thing. Both working to handle a really tough situation thoughtfully with the least damage possible. There’s just no pleasing some folks. I do have to admit reading the comments is such a great procrastination tool.

They’re both too mature- abnormally so. Passion trumps reason. First love stays with you forever- and it’s both agony and ecstasy. Quill should be running away from home, Luann should be inconsolable.
imbaldeagle over 12 years ago
I’d have never guessed that this would have continued today – unless they intended to get together (as Luann suggested) and complete the goodbye process. But looks like Quill wants to avoid unhappy goodbyes and Luann is just playing along. Puzzling…
Superhuman over 12 years ago
Why is it that Brad can have a girlfriend, but whenever Luann falls for a guy, he leaves? Seems a bit unfair.
hello17cats over 12 years ago
If Quill & Luann were in a relationship that included sex, the parting would be extremely difficult. This parting is better and maybe down the road they may meet when both are ready to settle down.

What’s the definition of insanity again? Something about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome? Not the characters … The readers.
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
That’s up to you. But when people keep expecting the parameters of the strip to drastically change, anticipate that Luann and Quill will hook up in college in 3 months, or that Luann will actually graduate just because she seizes on Juilliard as her just due, they have only themselve to blame when it’s never Christmas morning and there are no much-anticipated and deserved presents. .If you can accept the fact that there will only be multiple variations of Groundhog Day for most of the charaters, and enjoy those arcs within that framework without expecting or demanding great strides forward, then you can enjoy the strip for what it is. Or bitch about what it isn’t – it’s your choice.

Now, will she try to get Gunther back from Rosa or will there be a new boy (or will she try to carry a LD relationship – not likely to work at her age).
lindz.coop Premium Member over 12 years ago
I guess I just don’t understand why everytime Luann has any chance at a nice boyfriend, he has to move to the other side of the world. Even dorky Brad was allowed to finally have a girlfriend. When is it Luann’s turn?
King_Shark over 12 years ago
Thanks for pointing me to his blog update. Unlike some of his cheerleaders here, one fanatical priest of his in particular, he knows he’s screwed up. Which shows he’s more honest than his worshippers. Of course, if Luann is his primary source of income, he has no real excuse for neglecting the strip. Again, of course, sceptics like me (or trolls, if you prefer) have felt that he hasn’t been paying attention since 2008.
nubian_kinonna over 12 years ago
i like that it’s not all teary and dramatic. i’m sure they’ll miss each other, but why does that necessarily mean they have to have a bawling, sniffling, tear fest?i like how quill’s handling it. he’s keeping it simple so luann doesn’t have the aforementioned tear fest. besides, it’s not like it HAS to be goodbye forever. there’s email and skype. they’ll be graduating soon (theoretically) , so one of them could study abroad for college.
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
I didn’t say the criticism isn’t justified and that he owes everyone better plotting within the framework. IMO his arcs have become more and more shallow and the abrupt endings and/or deus ex machina resolutions are very unsatisfactory. I certainly haven’t been praising them. .I’d just prefer to criticize those aspects than complain about something I know will never happen. And I don’t think it’s “condescending” to point out that Greg usually doesn’t have something up his sleeve, and that to have expectations like that have been shown time and again to be unrealistic.
