yes, pup, ’tis confusing if you should be loved or hated

Aw, show that poor pooch some LOVE, Nancy. Just get Frank to buy you a new pair of stockings.

Frank and the pooch love each other while Nancy is scared of that little pup.

A good friendly dog greets everyone equally, even if it does put him in an existential quandary when he all alone.

Puddles tries to comprehend why he’s still drawn more cartoony than the rest of the cast.

I think it would have been more funny if, in the center panel, Greg would have drawn Dick Dastardly’s snickering dog, Muttley, just after he would have shredded Nancy’s stockings.

Poor little Puddles. But hey this is minor, food, love, loving master, good home, it’s not too bad of a dog’s life. Don’t worry little mutt, you are a good,loved dog.

The scary image doesn’t seem to fit Puddles. Nancy is all dressed up – I think a better image would be Nancy visualizing a muddy pig jumping up on her.

All joking aside, this is totally true. That’s why I never feed my dog food while I’m eating it, even if he really wants some, and it’s good for him.

Growing up, my brother thought I was insane. He insisted on feeding my dog carrots from the table, saying that it wouldn’t start a habit. Boy, did it. Eventually, my brother couldn’t even crunch into a carrot – anywhere in the house! – without my dog coming running to impolitely “beg”. I, however, could eat carrots in peace, since I never gave my dog one from my plate. It was torture for my brother, but what could he do? The double standard was set.

Wow, Nancy looks very nice. Sadly something in her mind sees puddles as not ready to cuddle. Frank loves him though.

How sad that Frank, Nancy and Puddles all seem to be mostly relegated to Sunday only status. They had a brief appearance when Lu got home from her class/tire changing with Jack but otherwise…

Poor doggo Puddles. I wear long skirts and love my dogs. Sure I have a bit of fur on me, but I don’t shoo them away from me, ever. That would break my heart.

What Nancy is doing in the comic is too sad to me. And it hurts the dog.

Hah! A very cute, and very true scenario. IMO this is a wonderful stand-alone Sunday comic!

Luann’s folks dressing up on Sunday morning? I like where this is going…..

The other characters in this comic have evolved and are drawn fairly realistically. Puddles is still drawn in a cartoonish way, and he doesn’t match the other characters.

I think this actually has to do with canine manners. Having a dog jump up on you, no matter how cute it is from a puppy, is usually something that is discouraged through the training process. Even small dogs tend to have sharp nails and as a visitor to houses where dogs were never told not to jump on people I got some real scratches. Clearly Frank is encouraging this behavior and Nancy doesn’t like it and Puddles has been receiving mixed messages all his life. This doesn’t necessarily mean that Nancy dislikes him, just that she thinks he’s doing something wrong at the moment.

Many people do not want a dog jumping on them – me included. But a family dog, like mine, was trained that he could jump only on me (he was a Westie, so, a lot of dog in a small package)…

Dogs can easily learn how to behave with each family member. Our dog knew which people allowed her to be on the furniture and she would get off the furniture when the dis-allowing people were in the house. I always let my pets get on my furniture.

I love panel #1, understand panel #2, and feel sorry for Puddles in panel #3. I expect that some readers will throw shade at me, but……it’s Sunday, Frank and Nancy are all dressed up and going out, could it be to church?

Even the ears of Devil-Puddles are ragged, but the nose is shinier – perhaps from the mouth froth.

This reminds me of what a German woman on vacation said recently. When a dog ran at her in the park and jumped on her, she reacted with real fear and anger. The young female dog owner said, “He just does that – he won’t hurt you.”. The woman said, “But I don’t like it.”

Dear Evanses: No, I do not feel any guilt—none at all—for giving mixed messages to pets. For your next issue, you honestly should consider depicting sanctimonious cartoonists.

Puddles at an ‘SSA’ (Stocking Scratchers Anonymous) meeting:

Puddles: “Uh, hi … I’m Puddles.”

SSA: “HI, PUDDLES!”

Puddles: “And … and … I SCRATCH UP stockings!! (whimpers)”

SSA: “It’s OK, dog! We’re here for you!”

Puddles: “Oh, and I pee all over the place, too!”

SSA: “That’s PA. Second door down on the left! Also known as a bathroom.”

It isn’t hard to train a dog NOT to jump up on you. Why can’t folks do that? None of our dogs jump, even our small one doesn’t (and he did when we first rescued him). It takes consistency and you’re done. Do humans have no self control?

The Puddles Paradox! Hey, he’s only a friendly dog; he may even learn, someday (although I suspect Luann is a bit remiss in his training)….

Poor Puddles! He wants to be affectionate and keeps getting mixed signals! I have the same issue with my cat! I don’t want him to get hair on my clothes, but he just wants to give me love!

Must disagree with Videoziner. The cartoon is well drawn, cute, and panel #3 expresses how most of us feel about Greg’s work in general.

Some of you need to lay off Nancy. I seriously doubt Puddles will need to seek therapy because he got ‘dog blocked’.
