What’s the difference between a dad joke and a regular joke? With a dad joke, the punchline is apparent. Let’s hear everyone’s worst dad joke. A neutron walks into a bar and asks how much for a beer. The bartender says, “For you, no charge.”
So that’s Tara’s story? See my Pitts Gazeteer article in the comments section yesterday. Or, I can repeat it here for those who do not want to lose their page.
Luann is giving Tara some serious side-eye in the third panel, but I’m not sure why. Is she skeptical of her claims? Wondering about Tara’s dedication as a student? Tired of the drama -already? Worried that Tara might make a move on Jack?
Hopefully she has her lost phone blocked. Also, I don’t think Tara is heartless. She deals with things in a different way. Also, she seems to have an unusual sense of humor.
Okay. Speaking just for Me Tara, I would REEEEEEEEEALLY like to Meet (See) your “Roommate,” BEFORE you get kicked out of Junior College for a failing grade. Because if She (and I assume it IS a “she”) is giving YOU problems, she must be one formidable young woman and “She” SHOULD be added to the “Gang.”
PS: Nobody leaves their expensive smartphones in the car. NOBODY. That’s as dumb as leaving your wallet in the car overnight while it’s parked outside.
Unless of course, you have to go to Court which doesn’t allow “electronic devices” in the building. Not that “I” would Know about such things……..,
The Team never implies the Tara’s phone was in the car. Tara is just giving a list of drama. Teens and young adults don’t necessarily speak in parallel structure.
This is so generational in the comments, which makes sense since most of us are Baby Boomers, and these characters are Millennials. I think there is more going on with Tara, but I will take her at her word, and I know about roommate drama with my own free spirit daughter. Her comment in the last panel has meaning not only as a joke I think, but also as a personal comment that what happened to her was not that bad really. Greg has the banana in front of us as we follow what is next. Wonder what? Hmmm.
Slightly behind the times here… 20 years ago, losing your phone usually meant losing your contacts, but with smartphones, most (MOST) people save everything to a cloud account – google or apple depending on your phone type
Tara will always be the sort of person things just happen to. She attracts that sort of vibe. However I know people who would have dealt with all of those things and still made it to class because missing was simply not an option. I’d say on her priorities list school is way down the line. She may be brilliant enough to get by only showing up now and then but even so she’s setting a bad precedent for herself. The discipline it takes to show up and produce the required assignments is almost as important as the material learned.
A very bland strip re-entry for Tara. Especially after the left-at-party and missing-from-class setup. Oh, well. GnK still have a whole day left to concoct a cliff hanger. :o(
This is also somewhat late to reintroduce her in what started out to be a palsy-walsy week for Jack and Luann. A week of classroom banter and a trip to Burrito Bandito. Hmmm.
Overall a fun return of Tara…. with all the expected non-dramatic “melodrama” that would seem very plausible.
Tara’s joke was quite funny as well.
I wonderful if this will go anywhere on Saturday or just be a week of college kids being… college kids?
And, I wonder if Greg will switch arcs again for Monday like he has been doing the last several weeks (having more brief, one-week glimpses at the arcs)?
Overall, I am in favor of Greg continuing the 1-week approach to the arcs…. it keeps the characters all more “present” as they come back more quickly… and a 1-week arc keeps the story more “fresh” in my opinion.
I think Luann’s left sleeve is infected (in the first panel) with the dreaded “drab green” disease. It quickly spreads to the rest of the jacket by the third panel.
I just gave a reply to my remark by capricorn9th for her reply on yesterday’s page. I also invited capricorn9th and others to continue the discussion one-on-one. If you were offended by my comment, please go back, read my response and if you want, continue the discussion in a more private arena.
Sigh, another false alarm cop-out. Does anyone remember when these plotlines involved some actual stakes? Delta getting Hodgkins, Brad getting injured on the job, even Dirk getting into an accident. Nowadays the biggest thing ever put at risk is a bit of petty cash to one of Ann’s small-time scams. Oh, and don’t forget Gunther’s casserole getting thrown at Les (just the food and not the dish, mind you. That might actually hurt someone!)
Life sure is bland in Pittsville; no wonder Delta left for college and never came back (and Rosa ditched this place the second she graduated high school). I’m not saying they need to face the apocalypse or anything, but these stories where nothing is ever at stake (and despite being supposedly about feelings and character development over plot, nobody ever really learns anything or evolves as a person) are really bringing me close to uttering what TV Tropes calls the Eight Deadly Words.
I don’t know what the motivation is behind Luann’s side eye. However, I do want her to stop being so judgmental. Tara has more experiences (good and bad) happen to her because she takes more risks than Luann. Risk taking should be rewarded to some extent to encourage innovation and growth. Tara has to deal with roomie drama because she took the risk to live on her own, and unlike the De Groots doesn’t own two houses to help kids move out. She may have signed a lease which is near impossible to break (not that Luann would know how to even read a lease contract). Tara at least HAS a car, which means she took on the risk/liability of buying one, which Luann has never done. I think we have all lost a phone, although Luann never seems to, maybe because she never goes out to parties/clubs etc.? Where is she going to lose it, her bedroom? Luann is great at limiting her liabilities but she would do well to grow up, take some risks, and evaluate her own life before judging others. In short, walk a mile in Tara’s shoes.
Also, this is COLLEGE. Attendance may have mattered in high school, but if Tara can pass the exams in college, she deserves to be objectively evaluated on her smarts, not her effort and ability to pay tuition.
Someone needs to free Starr by explaining to her that she’s wasting her time attending college. A person like her with no interest in learning or work doesn’t belong in school, unless it’s military boot camp.

The point is that she missed classes to deal with unfortunate incidents, and didn’t respond to calls because she got a new number. She’s not at fault.
