For the past week a subset of the “Heart of the City” has been at an anime convention and Steenz displays a sure knowledge of what a cosplay convention would be like. Bets was introduced as a Trekkie and cosplayer but Greg has largely avoided anything like real knowledge of cosplaying or conventions.
So Tiffany takes a bath as long as she wants while others are waiting? I can’t get myself to believe that Gunther & Les allowed this on a daily basis. They can’t stand up to their guest at all?
This little backyard apartment is not intended for 4 occupants so it would make more sense for Gunther and Bets to just move out and get an apartment together. Tiff can move into Gunther’s room if she continues to balk at moving back home or the dorm suite. Bets’s income from her Snapgram should cover the apartment rent.
Why do we keep coming back to this dreaded arc and stay on it for twice as long as we do others? This arc has long run its course back in the fall! Can we please wrap it up and move onto something else?
If anything, I’ll bet that Irma and Al would aim their ire not at Tiffany for staying too long and taking advantage of les and Gunther but at Bets for having stayed the night. Considering how they’ve behaved toward Bets, I wouldn’t put it past them.
So, last night the Gulag became the passion pit of Pitts, Bets’ private brothel, Gunther’s goodbye to virginity, but now, in the cold light of morning a new, desperate desire has fallen upon them…..they gotta pee.
Now, Les appears to be the most vehement that Tiff must be told to move out. Since he was the one who invited her, it’s only fair that he should be the one to disinvite her. He has, however, not taken that responsibility. Rather, he has tried to manipulate Gunther or the parents to do so. So far, though, he has only succeeded to arouse moral support from Gunther & Bets. Maybe that’s what he needs in order to strengthen his own weak personality and bolster his resolve. However, a fracas over bogarting the bathroom is hardly a good foundation for an amicable or reasonable discussion about moving out.
On the other hand, with a bit of determination and the help of G&B, Tiff’s belongings could be packed up and ready to go back to the mansion. Bets could pick out for her some basic outfit to put on after the bath, while the rest of her things are packed. In fact, the car could be packed and ready to go. Meanwhile, Bets also could be all dressed and ready, so that if Al or Irma were to look outside, all they would see is a fully-clothed Bets helping to load Tiff’s things into Gunther’s car. They would not have sufficient reason to infer that Bets had been there all night, rather than having returned early in the morning to help Tiff to move out.
This solution would be not unlike some suggestions from commenters a few weeks ago that Tiff’s things should be left outside as an undeniable hint that she is no longer welcome. It’s not quite as friendly as my previous suggestion of a surprise party that begins at the Gulag as a going away party, which then moves to the mansion and transfers all of Tiff’s belongings back there with the help of her friends. But it’s better than just leaving Tiff’s things out at the sidewalk. It reminds me of a popular song from some decades ago about “Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover”, that included the advice: “Just hop on the bus, Gus, don’t need to discuss much…”. Tiff’s departure doesn’t need much discussion or explanation.
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. What, if anything that might that have to do with this arc. Finally sex, between two consenting young adults, clearly in love, has happened in spite of disapproving parents;between the girl they scorned and Irma’s suffocated son, while the girl they welcome is quickly wearing out her welcome. So typical the irony. Bets has given the boys backbone (puns can fly in hardening up here -:). As I’ve been pointing out the original issue still lies, why they are so for Tiffany, while so against Bets. Al"s plan to keep the boys cozy in his house, expense free to them and apparently Tiffany, is being put to a serious serious test. For those who thought this never would happen, or for whatever reason didn’t want it to sorry, I can’t help but point out HILARITY ENSUES. The laugh is on you.
After months in the dorm with Stef, being with Gunther and Les must really feel like a dream for Tiffany. The two don’t give her limits and they seems to be starting to do it just now. I hope arguing with Bets helps Tiffany to regain the consideration for the others that she had and seems to have lost. But if Bets really intends to stay, Tiffany could go back to the dorm and share the room with dear Dez, leaving Stef alone.
Here’s the easy solution. They ALL move into Tiffany’s mansion. Enough bedrooms and baths for all and company for Tiffany. And out of the gulag under Uncle Al.
Wasn’t Bets making over 2000 a month via the Internet? What is Gunther doing for money? Surely they could manage to live together independent of this post adolescent zoo?
I don’t mean to start anything (I never would -:) but why are so many here focusing on the bathroom? It’s only a plot device to illustrate how much Tiffany’s selfishness is running into events where the boys, and Gun’s GF, Bets, are all demanding she move? This against the backdrop of the closest thing to sex in the strip, and the seemingly implacable opposition of the parents to that act, and who is doing it with Gunther. I mean I like all the various lenses people view graphic toons, but this is a storyline comic, not gag a day. I guess I just like more story discussion. Sorry, if I seem preachy, don’t mean to offend anyone (truly) but I just wonder.
OK, ‘scuse me while I go whip up all the “Super Bowl snacks” that I didn’t make yesterday because I don’t watch the Super Bowl. Be sure to call me back IMMEDIATELY if the commercial ends before I get done – I don’t want to miss a second. This is shaping up to be what could be the most spectacularly entertaining show in the history of the Luannverse!
It’s obvious, since Betts is wearing Gunther’s robe she stayed over. (Betts may have planned ahead for the previous night, but bringing her own robe?) But why is Gunther fully dressed, and, why do the boys not look like they need a shave?
I grew up in a family of 13 in a house with one and a half bathrooms. We had a curtain around the bathtub and several people could use the room at the same time. The sink, toilet and bathtub could all be used by different people without interfering with each other.
Just close the bathroom curtain and someone can use the toilet. I can’t believe the guys have not thought of that. If those 2 dummies have not ever stood up to Tiffany, they deserve the treatment they are getting.
It’s always painfully obvious when Greg wants the reader to hate a character (Usually Tiff)… but here it’s totally backfiring. ¬_¬ Hey, Betsy, listen up: This. Is NOT. Your. HOUSE! No one is making you live here! In fact, you’ve been disallowed from sleeping over. Now, you’ve been here for one night and a morning and you’re already throwing your weight around demanding Tiffany be kicked out… for using the bathroom?
How does that make Bets look ANY better than Tiffany? It makes her look worse, especially after disregarding the property owners’ rules. But somehow, Tiffany gets presented as selfish for living in a home where the owners like her and want her to stay. She went to a party, yeah, but she’s not doing anything against the rules. She gets along with Al and Irma and is responsible enough to keep a job and balance school (I’m not sure Gunther and Bets even work a job).
Now if Tiffany, say, lied to the owner’s face directly (like Les) or invited a boyfriend to stay the night with her (like Gunnie), THEN she’d be in trouble and would get consequences. But “taking too long in the bathroom” being the last straw? Gimme a break! It’s such author bias.
Tiff’s always framed as unsympathetic even when the content of the strip rarely ever makes the characters who rip on her look any better. I’m getting flashbacks to when Luann put freezing-cold water in the dunk tank when Tiffany volunteered to do the dunk tank to help raise money for Delta’s ticket to DC. Tiffany’s quitting after being pranked was framed as unfair to Delta even though it was LUANN’S fault she quit.
If this were a crime drama like SVU or CSI, the three would somehow get the door open, only to discover that something horrible has happened to Tiffany…But since it’s a comic strip, they’d find her sound asleep after a hard night of partying. Or: Al snuck in and spent the night to check out everyone’s stories!
OK, I know what happened … Gunther’s robe was originally blue , but Les , doing the wash for the week, carelessly threw it in with a red polo shirt and set on warm/hot water ( since hot water cleans everything better, right?). The resulting color bleed changed the robe to blue+red= lavender. !
Two weeks ago Tiffany appeared in a Monday strip, promptly exited and then never appeared again, except by mention. Today she leads off, again on a Sunday. Are we to anticipate another two weeks of strips of the Seraglio happenings. (Seraglio – the women’s apartments (harem) in an Ottoman palace.)
Indeed, at least for now, the women rule the roost in the seraglio (formerly known as the Gulag). Bets has (enticed/coerced/induced) Gunther into acting against his parents’ wishes. Until now, he has complied with those wishes. Tiffany has Les over a barrel, both romantically and financially with her financial arrangement at the Fuse.
To this point, Bets and Tiffany have managed to get along. Their living in close proximity in the Quad and at the McManse has not overtly exhibited any negativity between the two. But here, we are starting to see some jealousy on the part of Bets to the disparity in treatment by the boys’ titular parents; Al and Irma. Tiffany, for her part, seems typically unaware that she is being treated deferentially, just as she has been treated all her affluent life.
I’d hate to see these two ladies(?) relationship degenerate into the old Luann-Tiffany feud of the past!
… Bets you dont’ live here. I agree it’s inconsidrate but you have no right to say she’s got to go. Though i’m also hoping this storyline goes instead of the inevtible month more we have of this nonsense.
Tiffany loves her baths. She probably felt all sticky from all that dancing at the party. And the robe is probably one Gunther had—perhaps as some have said, a gift from his mom. (Wouldn’t she have a cow to know BETS is wearing it right now?) I’m thinking Bets will convince/encourage Tiffany to move out. Maybe they will discover that Stef and Kip have moved in together somewhere else and Tiffany can magically have her coveted private room at last!
I’m sure they have only one bathroom at the dorm suite; so maybe Bets (as a girl) would be comfortable going in to use the toilet with Tiff in the tub, and start a conversation there.
This is what roommate living is all about. Learning to deal with this stuff like grownups. I say toss out Tiffany and Betts. They’re both annoying and bossy.
So…. as I predicted, the romantic proclivities of Gunther and Bets are just going to MUDDY the waters about the real issues:
1. Tiffany’s significant overstay of her welcome.
2. The poor attitude Irma and Al shows towards Bets.
Again, I do not really care one way or the other if Gun & Bets are romantic together in whatever context folks imagine in their minds. It is fine if they are intimate. It is fine if they are not intimate.
But, as it seems now…. it seems possible that Bets will possibly confront Tiffany…. or at least add into the discussion if Les or Gunther push it. Then this likely leads to some sort of situation where Tiffany will be upset, potentially leave crying, and Al and/or Irma will see Tiffany leaving very upset, and come over to the Gulag and find Bets there in her bathrobe. It will not really be “hilarity ensues” in my opinion.
If Gunther and Bets want to live together, they should work to have the resources to make it economically on their own. Folks do this all the time while in school. By having Gunther and Bets go against the guest rules for Gunther (a free guest himself)…. just makes their own ability to actually talk with Al and Irma about their problematic behavior much more difficult.
Just yesterday (Luann time), Tiff was was a beloved favorite with every right to stay in the Gulag as long as she wanted, regardless of the boys’ wishes.
Today she’s the inconsiderate, selfish one.
And did I say manipulative? https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2022/11/24
I really thought Tiffany was changing her self centered attitude at least a little. She is really being totally inconsiderate to the guys that has allowed her to stay there.
Ruh-roh. Looks like this embarrassment could have an “explosive” ending! Poor Gunny, and Leslie. And Bets. Or maybe they should be severely practical and just barge in and use the toilet whilst Tiff lounges in the tub?
I have a solution: Tiffany can live there at the guest house, and eat all her meals with Al and Irma, because they love her so much. Les, Gunther, and Bets can all move into the Farrell Mansion.

Poor Les and Gun. It maybe time to use the sink… or better yet, pee all over Al’s car! LOL

So…. as I predicted, the romantic proclivities of Gunther and Bets are just going to MUDDY the waters about the real issues:

Is this the time we get to see Tiff ask for a towel and get a big no time.

What a difference a day makes.

This is the lamest arc… so contrived and over-extended as to why Tiffany is staying there so long after such a minior injury.

Bets in a robe? So, an over-night hookup. Or so it appears to be.

Hope Tiffany comes out of bathroom alone.

I really thought Tiffany was changing her self centered attitude at least a little. She is really being totally inconsiderate to the guys that has allowed her to stay there.

How about EVERYONE move into the mansion. Plenty of bathrooms, no rent, security and no noise questions from mom and Al.

Is Gun crossing his legs. Uh-oh. He might be in TROUBLE! ;-P

It would be excellent if the bathroom door opens to show Uncle Al, who has been fixing a leaky faucet.

Ruh-roh. Looks like this embarrassment could have an “explosive” ending! Poor Gunny, and Leslie. And Bets. Or maybe they should be severely practical and just barge in and use the toilet whilst Tiff lounges in the tub?

9am? Seems safe. Real people left for work/school/errands well before 9am.

I have a solution: Tiffany can live there at the guest house, and eat all her meals with Al and Irma, because they love her so much. Les, Gunther, and Bets can all move into the Farrell Mansion.
