Being with people of your own race, when you are a minority is a relief. In the larger society, you always have the feeling of being judged first as a minority and then as yourself. Among your own community, you can be who you are. When given a choice, such as a church, it’s easier to choose to go where you can actually wear that ridiculous hat and feel comfortable.

“Among your own community, you can be who you are.”

Only if you narrow your community down to just one. We all have to make accommodations for others and hope they’ll do the same for us, be a little bit better than our nature prefers.

It is interesting to consider, though, that anyone would just let just anyone touch them wherever, whenever, and however that stranger might wish.

    (Besides, it’s a well-known fact that girls/boys got cooties.)
