Remember, this is comic strip time. If we keep Lila frozen in time as a newborn just home from the hospital, that limits her ‘active’ involvement. Obviously we’re already stretching by having her think full sentences.
John and I both knew from writing for the Rugrats that those babies had ling since stopped acting like babies. The creators had already explored everything they could from that specialized POV, and the characters were getting into older kid situations- although still limited by their baby-talk.
I was Homer and Marge’s age in the second season. I still want to know why Blondie and Dagwood’s kids grew into teenagers while Blondie and Dagwood didn’t age a day. Same for Prince Valiant and Queen Aleta, who are now the same age as their oldest kids.
Even when too young for solids, some that are good are anything they can chew a little for flavor, a piece of ham (WITH- not against the grain, a carrot (can even be carved like a pacifier), a stick of celery. Parents always need to watch, of course, but that goes without saying.
I want a bagel, too. Fresh, white, sesame seed bagel. Toasted with butter. Or not, but with sundried tomato/artichoke blended cream cheese.(it was a really good cream chez blend!)

Exactly how old is Lily right now? Isn’t she a little young for solids?

Actually a hard, stale bagel is an excellent teething tool for babies; chewing hard things helps shape the jaw correctly.

Yes, even in the cartoon world little ones don’t get solids…

Cartoon time is weird. When I started watching the Simpsons I was younger than Homer and Marge now I am much older…

Again, this is comic strip time. And she’s already thinking in full sentences. Some realties are stretched.
