Most people can do simple arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), but I’ve found that a lot of people – I’m almost tempted to say most – have a real problem when it comes to things like ratios, probabilities, and percentages (the difference between one out of three and one to three, and the fact that 50% more than 50% isn’t 100%).
