The original saying was during the pay toilet era. Pay toilets cost a dime to use.

    Here I sit,Broken-hearted,tried to $#!+,And only f#rted.

    An obvious waste of money.

For such a smart Street Artist, Fleshy’s spelling isn’t all that great. Maybe he needs some reading material alongside his litter box (for educational purposes only, of course)….

Cut Fleshy some slack. After all, he’s only an animal.

Actually, I believe that the original omitted the defecation expletive all together. It was simply "Here I sit broken-hearted, paid my dime but only farted.

I knew it! Someday the Internet would be reduced to its essence: quoting (and debating the etymology) of bathroom graffitti! How many billions of dollars and hours have been invested in such a glorious human accomplishment?!!!

i came across both referenced graffitti(s?)(he who sits, he who writes) in the 1940’s. i’m sure they were old then.

I’d have guessed Fleshy would favour the Byrds.

The best bathroom graffiti that I ever saw had an intellectual approach. In 1993, in a bathroom at the UNL campus, someone wrote: “Have you tried virtual reality?” Someone else wrote: “I’m not sure.”
