Yes, and they need to have a fine that’s, say, ten times the normal HOV violation fine for people who do such things. Of course, I do tend to think that the HOV lanes are likely a waste. In many areas, such as the Washington, DC, region, the HOV aren’t merely lanes, they’re an entirely separate road system within the freeways. I can’t imagine the expense. And how many people carpool because of these lanes? One parent with his or her baby and toddler would qualify for HOV-3, but it’s not like the kids would have driven separately if not for the HOV lanes. I would guess that the vast majority of people who legally use the HOV lanes didn’t actually change their behaviors because of those lanes. Our transportation dollars would be far better spent on transit and/or on maintaining the road system which is already in place.
If yours is a frequently crowded coffee shop, maybe a blow-up placeholder would be a convenience; but you have to position him first (so, what’s the point?), and the friendly staff are likely to stick a pin in your plan, so to speak, once they tumble to it. This seems more like a one-shot deal….
Think I know how Monty did it…..ordered his coffee. It was too hot, didn’t want to spill in on his lap. Put his friend with the inflated ego in place and went for a walk. Or the post office. Or the corner store or somewhere. after all – don’t want to spill hot coffee. :)
