I don’t get the idea behind speed reading. Why rip through it? Any literature worth reading is worth reading slowly, so as to allow time for full absorption and contemplation. I like to put the book down from time to time, and just think about what I’ve read. But I dunno, maybe I’m just slow.
I’ve been known to quote Oliver Twist often whilst visiting the donut shop. I’ll often return to the service counter and say, “Please Sir – I want some more”
I took a course in speed reading at a military academy. I was already reading 1200 wpm with 80% comprehension and showed no improvement. The only real trick is to deal with the text in the abstract rather than as sounds. I had developed the skill naturally because I learned to read before I went to school and was exposed to phonics.
It sounds like a good skill but it has cost me a fortune in books over the years. :)
after book 7 of the Wheel of Time I would go to the library and read the first and last chapter of the book since nothing ever happened in the story it was so slow

Monty, if you think you were motoring right along flicking physical pages with a fingertip, just wait until you try it on a cell phone.
