In the days when this was drawn, married couples always slept in twin beds in the movies and in many comics. If M & J were “queer”, then it follows they would be in twin beds. A double bed represents total innocence.
The Bumstead’s always slept in a double bed, but Dag only slept and ate sandwiches there. No hanky panky ever. The living room couch was for dagwood’s naps, while their favourite chairs were back to back.
