Considering the great red scare, it’s amazing they got away with this one at the time! It’s true, there never has been a nation that practiced communism as KarlMarx described and prescribed. It’s always become a veil for totalitarianism. Yep, human will is weak. Mutt was giving into greed and deception right here. Marx was hugely naive to think his idea would actually work.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of someone else’s money.

I don’t think Karl Marx considered the effect of communism on intangibles like incentive and creativity. Or as others have said above, the lure of power and totalitarianism. He completely ignored the “human” factor. Thanks, Karl. How many millions have lived in misery because of your hare-brained scheme?

This sort of illustrates the old joke, “Under capitalism, man oppresses man, but under communism, it’s the other way around.”

I remember an experiment in school I heard about, where the teacher taught the fallacies of Communism by having a shared grade on tests. The smarter kids were upset they got Cs for their perfect papers, and the slackers did even >less< work the longer it went on. The smart kids stopped caring, and the class average plummeted to Fs rather quickly.

Reminds me of a few Abbott and Costello routines, where Bud tries to cheat Lou but winds up being cheated instead.

And with the changes in Russia, now they have lots of multi-millionaires, and a Russian Mafia, etc. And they still have lots of poor people.

The first form of government by the Pilgrims was communism. It didn’t work for the above reasons. Why work when you get an equal share of food from the community store house.
