Gotta hand it to Bud Fisher, for using oscillating large and small type in this ’toon to indicate loud and soft audio volumes. But that 2nd panel, “Open the door, Richard”, is a line used by Bob Dylan & The Band in a song of title “Open the Door, Homer” on one of his Bootleg albums. So, as this M&J ’toon predates those guys, could BD & the Band have been M&J fans, or is there another source for “Open the door, Richard”?
