I never understood but one poem in my life, “The Cremation of Sam McGee.”A guy at work was the poetic type, soft spoken, musician (piano, organ), sang solos in church. very much an aesthetic person.Once we were talking about songs and I told him I had trouble as a kid trying to sing along, as I didn’t understand the way the stanzas were written, and besides that a song seemed like poetry. To my total astonishment, he remarked that he didn’t like poetry and that the only poem he ever understood was “The Cremation of Sam McGee!”

I wish these stips had an easily readable originally published date on them. There may be in that tiny print, but if I enlarge it the resolution suffers. I love M&J, though. Guess it must be great art-it’s timeless.

Many are asking, “What’s a ‘rumble seat?’”
