He’s referring to when the strip, as done by Ernie Bushmiller was “Fritzi Ritz”, before the shift to what we now know the strip to be, “Nancy” , as it then became centered on her orphaned niece, and she was turned into a more responsible character, and the previous lifestyle was phased out, as it were…. she was characterized as a flapper back then, and “enjoyed having a good time”, although that of course (as we all know from today’s version of the strip) hasn’t been that way for a looooooooonnnnng time…. but all that should be out of the window now, as that storyline, for all intents and purposes, should be viewed as….. “an alternate reality”. So, compared to the Fritzi we know and love, today… essentially, it’s the same character, but in effect two different Fritzis, and two different sets of circumstances and characteristics….
Actually, the Gilchrist brothers returned the strip to a former style, while still retaining their own talented and unique style in it…=And the changes to Fritzi were done way before then, when Mr. Bushmiller took over from the original author… Fritzi’s changes happened in the 30s and 40s….

Fritzi might want to change to smaller ear rings unless she wants her ear lobes to hang on her shoulders.
