it’s best to assume that every single thing that you touch in a hotel or motel room has already been in intimate contact with a disease-ridden stranger. hopefully, at least , the sheets have been laundered but for god’s sake, pull down that bedspread and stay off it!
I remove the bedspread from my room’s bed as soon as I enter and I have started leaving a not to maid NOT to replace it. I would never make undressed contact with anything other than sheets and towels and one just has to hope that their linen service cleanses well; I wear my slippers around the room if not my shoes and have even considered buying a bag like thing to use in the bed, but have not yet gone to that extreme.
