    didn’t know brown bears hunted seals (or were in Newfoundland…) Polar bears on the other hand (the white ones!) do hunt seals, not sure if many of then would have been in Newfoundland at that point though, it would have been too warm.

    That’s not a seal, it’s a sealion. See the external ears? A very cute sealion at that, great art work Wiley.

    IS this one of Wiley’s typical bears? THAT will be really interesting!

    @Avolunteer

    Yes we do have bears in Newfoundland, brown and black; white bears are in Labrador, not on the Island, and yes they have been known to go after seals on the north coast, but it is rare these days that the seals come that close in to the Island. Actually, what on earth made you assume this was Newfoundland being portrayed?

    However, Mikmaks were not native to Newfoundland that far back, instead the Mikmaks moved onto the Island to displace and replace the Beothuk population as the white man hunted them to extinction….

    Maybe it will work out. That bear might be an ancestor of Smoky. In this strip anything is possible.

    Columbus didn’t mean to “find” America. And I am still pissed that we celebrate a mass murdering maniac like Columbus. (And no: That’s no anti-american statment.)
