That’s my relationship with mosquitoes. When I’m around they ignore everyone else and zero in on me. Bit of a bummer for a guy who likes the outdoors.

It’s not really looking up “cartoons” when you see a reference to something in one that you don’t understand. As others pointed out, it only takes a few seconds to look something up and learn something new. Or you can simply take the time to post to the world that you don’t get a reference to something.

Shouldn’t it be a ZagGnat rating?

If those are wasps, it could be a high yelp rating.

The point is, indeed, about ‘looking up cartoons’. A word or phrase encountered in a serous context you do not understand is worth looking up. A cartoon, however, is a joke. A joke that has to be explained is a joke that has failed. You shrug, say, “I don’t get it.”, and move on. And, to those of you with your nose up in the air— Get over yourself!

I tend to agree. If i don’t get a joke, i move on. I don’t put a lot of thought into it, especially if I don’t care about it. I don’t post about it, nor expect someone else to explain. In this particular case, since someone bothered to explain what Zagat is, I have a vague idea what it is. Since Zagat is a commercial endeavor, I presume that today’s “cartoon” was a paid commercial placement. Since I have no interest in Zagat, I most likely will forget what it is tomorrow.

To be clear, today’s cartoon does not include paid commercial placement. (Zagat) It simply references something that’s in the cultural lexicon. (Zagat) I would never stoop to (Zagat) product placement (Zagat) in my cartoon. (Zagat)
