Many states now have eye tests that one has to pass when it comes time to renew their driver’s license. My father-in-law is legally blind, so can’t drive anymore. My mother-in-law still has one eye good enough to pass the test, so she was able to renew her license (much to our disappointment, especially since she’s developed neuropathy in her feet!) However, she doesn’t drive more than 5 miles from where they live, and they’re going to give their car to my brother-in-law this summer, so she won’t have anything to drive. I just hope she doesn’t drive into anyone before he takes the car. They did move into a retirement community, so they will have their needs taken care of.

I’ve had the same conversation with my Mom. Now that I’m on the other side I don’t show my driver’s license because it has my age on it.

Here in Finland the age limit’s 70, too. After that, regular check-ups are required to keep your licence.

What do the people do after they’re 70? Some live that long, you know.

The US is like France. Either you drop dead behind the wheel or you mow down a crowd of people who are gathered on a sidewalk.

I thought my mother would never stop laughing the first time she saw me rock a little and do that ’grunting sort of oof" sound to stand up.
