It has long been a tradition in our family to plant trees. Many people can’t understand this because we won’t live long enough to see the fruit. I outlived a crabapple tree I planted and we are still eating the jelly. We are now beginning to harvest pecans the squirrels planted since we have lived here. But I (and the squirrels) are still planting trees I give away and at 85 will never harvest. Someone will, and I owe it to the world.

“The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago.” I forget who said that.
