Got laid off once. Guy that filled my job had more seniority than me.
Had absolutely no clue as to how to turn a computer on, much less program it.
Oh yeah they wanted me to teach him how.
So… a couple of days ago, Claire was working slowly, and doing a poor job,
while moping and loudly complaining to coworkers about having no motivation because she might be fired….
instead of doing an especially super, cheerful job to prove her worth.
Â
Today …. instead of showing enthusiasm, and building a positive, reasoned case for her own skills and value, she’s whining, and backstabbing…
trying to rat out an unsuspecting colleague by tattling on her, and pointing out her comparative worthlessness (as if management is blind.)
Call it immaturity, give her a break for her inexperience, or blame it on being brought up with a millennial’s sense of entitlement….
But as an employer, I’d be deciding right then, if I hadn’t already, that I didn’t want her, or her disruptive attitude, on my team.
