I had a nice, simple, easy to read, easy to spell last name. My husband had a German name that no one could pronounce correctly and was hard to spell. I tried to talk him into taking my last name, but, …sigh…he wasn’t interested!
all those stars in hollywood don’t change their last name when they marry, so you shouldn’t have to either ruthie.
what really stinks is if you do change your last name all those places you have to notify,
DMV, credit card companies, social security
and some of them, you are required to pay a fee for the change
I went from a Irish name that everyone made fun of ( it was funny sounding) to a proud German name. Now instead of people laughing at me name I get: are you related to…
My sister changed her last name with the Social Security Administration when she got married, but kept using her maiden name on her business cards, etc.
The same summer my mom got married and changed her name from “Caroline A” to “Caroline B”, my dad’s Aunt Caroline married my mom’s uncle, changing her name from “Caroline B” to “Caroline A”. Multiple marriages between the same two families can cause confusion!
as a boy growing up, i had asked my da once why women had to change their names when marrying…this was back in late 60s. never did understand that…the why part of it

It’s an easy choice if you like your husband’s last name better than yours like I did.
