aphis brava (feisty bees in Portuguese) were released by an agent provocateur to discredit the scientist trying to increase honey production, but who opposed the junta then in control of Brazil. These hybrid strains are a problem, but I haven’t noticed their native Africa being depopulated. “German honeybees” have been in Tennessee and Arkansas for more than 1 1/2 centuries and are just as deadly.
