When I was growing up I was called Denny after high school I became Dennis now the only ones that call me Denny are the ones I graduated with and some of my family everyone else calls me Dennis
I never knew another Mary Ann until I had a co-worker named MaryAnne Only one of us would say our name to the other (Hi MaryAnn) and the other would laugh.
20+ years later i had a supervisor named Mary Ann. We also joked about our name UNTIL she became my supervisor (I moved into her group). Then… not so much.
(Now just to make this longer…haha) THANK GOODNESS she spelled hers Marianne! I DO wish her well… We just didn’t get along.
My given name is Mitchell. Spent my entire childhood being called “Mitch the B!tch”. I’m now 64 years old and still hear it once or twice a year. Whenever friends or family call my Mitch, I tell them the name is Mitchell. Some of them actually respect my request to be called by my actual name.
Worked with a guy named Lawrence once. Everyone knew that the one thing that would get him to blow his stack (not just comment, but really blew up) was to call him “Larry”.

At a certain point I went from Randy to Randall. Though I allowed my Grandmother till she died, then my mothers sisters to call me by the diminutive.

I knew a fellow that was called “Robbie” up until he was a teen. Then he wanted to be called “Rob”. Later, he asked to be called “Robert”.

I knew 2 Carls in college. Carl and Car-el just to tell them apart.
And I worked in an office of about 45 people with 2 people each named Bruce, Phyllis, Linda, Scott, Dave and a Rachel & a Rachelle.
