Rube Goldberg, screwy right out of the box! I wondered whether the candy “Mike and Ike” is in any way related to Rube’s strip . . . so I Googled, of course, and found that the candy was introduced in the 1940s, so I guess not. There was also a well-known vaudeville song of the same name, which makes it seem that the moniker was a common gag. So now you know.
