Are you sure that’s three colours? I see it only two — black and orange. That was a very common colouring style for a lot of illustrations in children’s books of the era.
Notice the airplane. This is only 12 years after the Wright Bros first flight and 6 years after their first public demonstration. This was super fast development.

If this strip never appeared in full color, why is this one colored? Were the originals colored but printed in B&W, or is this a modern color-job?
