As kids, bubblegum was a real treat. We especially loved a brand that came in yard-long pieces in a paper sleeve. We would always offer mom some and she would say “Oh no, you enjoy it—I can’t stand gum.” We thought that was so strange. Now I understand it. For a couple of decades the idea of chewing gum has been just—erk. No.
Many years ago, there was something in Mad Magazine that had a reporter interviewing an elderly man who smoked, drank, and ate junk food, but was still alive at 80 or 90. The old man’s explanation was that he did all that before finding out his habits were unhealthy.

Aside from the ice cream, all the other “foods” mentioned are on my food pyramid. :)

They’re not getting their daily intake of fat and empty calories. For shame!

Ironically, avoiding those foods is a likely contribution to their longevity.
