ONCE UPON A TIME Bell Labs made a Little Switchboard so good boys and girls could talk to each other. Bell hired a Down on Her Luck Woman to operate the Little Switchboard and answer any and all inane requests callers presented her with. She was also given a Book which told her how to work the Little Switchboard. Before activing the power supply, ensure all valves are in good working condition and replace any that shows signs of imminent failure…

Well, I used those telephones, but the ones I used had a chord which connected the phone with the horn. The one Charlie uses must be an advanced model.
