He says,"Foiled!! And by man's best friend!"<BR><BR>

As seen here, Charlie Brown was a better person in the first comics. People liked him, and the actually tried to impress the lady.

Charlie Brown had an interest in Violet, eh? That had to evaporate. In later strips Violet was almost as mean to Charlie Brown as Lucy was.

You can argue this was Schulz’ first “story” strip where he uses the topic from day before (the introduction of Violet). This becomes more common later on. Before this, all the strips had been independent and unique.
