According to Wikipedia, the nation’s top song in November 18 1957 was Elvis’s “Jailhouse Rock”. Not too shabby.

I have to sympathize with Schroeder here. I’ve never been a classical-music snob by any means, but the way manufactured hit-music continues to be so pervasively dominant in pop culture has been a thorn in my side since high school. The recent media frenzy over Taylor Swift is only the latest example.
