How would we know the neat people if there were no messy people? And how would we know the snobs if there were no nice people like Pigpen?

I never saw him together with Franklin, so my naive young mind thought they were the same. Certainly Franklin can’t change being black (and why should he?), but in real life, someone like Pigpen could get clean.
