Marcie and Peppermint Patty sit at their school desks. Peppermint Patty wears a dress and several bows in her hair. She says, "I'm into bows this semester, Marcie."<BR><BR> Marcie responds, "You look very nice, sir."<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty looks shocked as she receives a test paper.<BR><BR> Patty's hair falls down and her bows hang limply. She says, "There's nothing like a D-Minus to make your bows droop . ."<BR><BR>

She looks like an extra from Bugtussle on “The Beverly Hillbillies” all dressed up to watch Cousin Pearl play the pee-ann-ee at the motion picture theater.

Peppermint Patty is an interesting conundrum. Ordinarily, she resents being seen as too girly — she once kayoed a boy who made fun of her for being forced to wear a dress (January 7, 1972) — then other times she wants to be seen as feminine, such as today’s strip. And of course, she has worn dresses to school without being compelled (December 13, 1979, August 28, 1981).
