I have no idea what Charlie Brown was about to quote. Anyone know? Apparently it was so common back then that Schulz assumed everyone would understand the joke.
Actually pride goeth before a fall. Or destruction, depending on the version you’re reading. On the other hand, “Vanity of vanities saith the preacher, all is vanity. I said of pride, what doeth it? and of vanity, what worketh it?”
But Shakespeare never said, “Vanity, thy name is woman,” At one point Hamlet says of his mother Queen Gertrude, “Frailty thy name is woman,”
I was thinking it might be one of the seven deadly sins too, but they are wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony (that last one rings a little too true for me, alas). It could be one of these two quotes (probably the 2nd one):Vanity is so secure in the heart of man that everyone wants to be admired: even I who write this, and you who read this. ~Blaise Pascal
