We’ve had winter for a month where I live. It’s below 0F (the airport says -19C) with hard, dry snow on the ground.Hmm. These days we have 14 shopping days left till Christmas.

An’ I always thought the use of “Holidays” in the plural referred to the Happy New Year holiday that followed Christmas by one week (yes – I realize that isn’t really in December). Also note the popularity of the phrase, “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”

Could someone provide the url to the Peanuts cartoon that was SUPPOSED to be yesterday’s but was pre-empted by one from earlier in the ’60’s? Thanks.

    Very cute!

I did expect Schroeder’s first sign to be about Beethoven’s birthday.

    I have a feeling that Snoopy_Fan might enjoy this…

    Am I right, Snoopy_Fan?

    xxx

Did that for six months, mostly outside. I’m the only one who bothered to clear the store’s sidewalk after an ice storm. That’s the night my mustache froze!

It’s only 12 shopping days for them at the time this was written. Stores were closed on Sundays back then. So, less shopping days to get it done.

Some people may have a need for an official (arbitrary) start of winter, but not me. Winter starts when I say it does. Don’t give a harry rat’s patootie when the arbitrary one starts.

Because not everyone in this country is Christian, that’s why. Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are also December holidays — and neither of them has anything to do with Christmas.

There are two ways to acknowledge winter, according to the meteorologist… (1) Astronomical Winter, beginning on the solstice, and (2) Meteorological Winter, running from December 1 to March 1. Some people, when they say “winter has started early here” simply mean they are getting their usual winter WEATHER earlier than expected.
