It’s like when Calvin asked Susie for her black crayon wherewith he drew black bears attacking a black forest campground at midnight.

There’s always one colour (or two) that wears out long before the others. For me it was Sepia, and Magenta. I loved them, and there were a lot of horses in my colouring books; sepia horses with magenta saddles.

Reminds me of the strip in which Linus feels like Oliver Twist asking for more gruel when he requests for more crayons from his sister…

Lucy, in a sudden fit of generosity, once gave Linus three crayons: black, white, and gray!

Well, he doesn’t have blue teeth, so he didn’t eat them.

Not surprised, I remember from my childhood that drawing even just one sky usually was very hard on the blue crayons.

“Hey,Linus, what’s the deal, using my crayons without asking me for permission? And why is the blue crayon missing?” Typical Lucy, and Linus, too-the way he gives her that typical grin of “nervousness,” in the closing panel. Because he knows big sis Lucy too well, and what having used her crayons without asking her, is going to spell, for him—being made BLACK AND BLUE! Yes, as all of us Peanuts fans well know, the idea is not to do or say anything to cross her, on the “peril of your well-being,” and the same ESPECIALLY goes for “little brother Linus”; he, too, certainly has had more than his fair share of “tramplings,” from her.

I’ve seen that strip, too, from Peanuts’ early days—it opened with Lucy drawing a picture, with her crayons, LInus tries to sneak some crayons, she orders him away from the crayons, but, due to their mom’s command to her, to “Share those crayons with her brother,”she reluctantly gave him three crayons, which happened to be the black, white, and gray. Now that I think about it, ten-to-one(most likely)she gave him those colors on purpose, so he really would not have any use for them.(or at any rate, his choices as to what he could have drawn, would have been QUITE NARROW, to say the least.
