Maybe they are not as incompetent as they seem, and they lose on purpose just to annoy him. I think I pity the boy more than I use to.

Not necessarily. Every time Linus pitches (it has happened, when CB was ill or something), they win. Snoopy usually pays attention, too. Obviously, we are dealing with Cartoon Physics in all its self-contradictions: things happen only when they’re funny. :)
Well, Chuck, I’m no baseball pro, but I do think that, when staffing your team, you need people who 1. want to play baseball; 2. know how to play baseball; 3. know when they’re AT a baseball game; and 4. have attention spans longer than it takes nail polish to dry. Just sayin’…
