So is Patty a boy or a girl? I’m surprisingly too lazy to look it up.

PP and Marcie (before she was Marcie) develop their relationship. Schulz pushed the “sir” bit a little too hard, but it was one of the two greatest friendships in the strip (the other being Snoopy and Woodstock).

Peppermint Patty is being raised by her father alone. I think she was referred to as a latchkey kid.

I was raised by a Southern-born father (b.1920) who taught all his kids, boys as well as girls, to adress adult men as “sir.” At age 16 I went to university, and continued the ingrained reflex. I was always amazed at the number of profs etc who became seriously annoyed at being addressed respectfully! This was about 1978, before the “prof is your pal” thing.
