I’ll admit that I had to look it up, but, Steve Martin (actor/comedian) wore an arrow through his head in an act of his.

Steve Martin was/ and still is a great comic that uses old fashioned comedy, such as prop gags. He is in several movies, Cheaper By the Dozen for example. The arrow through the head is one of the gags he’s known for. Also the saying. “Well EXCUUUUSSSE ME!”

I think there were two jokes going on at the same time. The perceived joke by the characters of the arrow through the head being like Steve MARTIN leaving Pig to reveal that their neighbor MARTIN Figowitz gives him a headache and is an archer as a second more implicit joke. Very sophisticated Pastis, am I reading the same comic?
