For dad to act any differently than normal, he would have to have accepted his situation. Maybe this is denial. (Yeah, I know it’s just a comic.) It could also be that, by acting as he always does, he is trying to reassure Andy that everything is okay.

My dad said you should either criticize your children or say nothing. And that is exactly what he did.

His dad was worse, he just Bogarted the pipe…..

Jeopardy has its attractions, like the teacher from my high school who was just lately a big winner. But I understand Andy’s dad more generally. He’s just an old-fashoned and rather ordinary grumpy guy. Andy needs some affection; I guess his mother is not around?

The only talking allowed during Jeopardy is in the space between Alex reading the clue and a contestant answering. That talking must be in the form of a question.

I remember asking my dad if I could read the comics after him and he said “Sure” and tore them into shreds. Andy’s dad sounds like a sweetheart.
