Everybody has a different view of “the future.” There are times when the old AA dictum seems like WAY too long to plan for. And others when 50 years seems about right.
There’s a joke that goes a guy with a new MBA was walking a beach in Mexico when he came upon a local man fishing from the beach. The MBA asked the local man what he did and he replied, “Oh I fish, walk the beach, make love to my wife”. The MBA pointed out that he could buy a boat, catch and sell more fish, use the profits to invest in other boats, build an empire, and make lots of money. The local man asked what he would do with all that money and the MBA replied, “I don’t know. Fish, walk the beach, make love to your wife.”
I have a bunch of cash I have saved for my retirement: travel, cocktails, fancy meals, exotic entertainment, an old hot rod Camaro to play Dukes of Hazard out here in the country. Got sick, hurt my back, got cancer, got isolated. Moral of the story-Have your fun when you can, nothing is promised.
Alcohol is so disgusting. I might be living on rabbit food as I smile through the fat jokes but at least I don’t have a drinking problem that no prayer can cure. My heart really goes out to such people that I love more than they love themselves. It’s just so heartbreaking. I lost so many to the disease and so many A.A. funerals due to this baffling disease. So sad.
The way things are going, Rat could be on to something. For more than just beer. Bet he’ll probably have to get there early just to pay five times it’s value just for a single six pack (limit one a month). And they’ll already be sold out by the time he arrives.

Rat’s plan sounds like a plan Andy Capp would do

I would have thought Rat’s philosophy would be, “Never put off ’til tomorrow what you can drink today.”

If you can spare money for beer these days, you’re rich, Rat.

And if things continue on their current trajectory, Friday may be about all the future we get.

Come on Goat, Rat can’t save up his whole life. He’s a rat, he’s only got like four or five years.

Rat’s logic is impeccable, Goat. Don’t be such a slave to your own ideology!

Definitely not worth it, the Capitalist’s can double your money if you forget the time element.

In heaven there is no beer….that’s why we drink it here…
pchemcat about 4 years ago
Unfortunately, that is about as far into the future as many people plan, then they want someone else to bail them out when stuff happens.
