Transcript:
Dakota: My costume's at home. Phoebe: Min too, but never fear! O MAGIC STEED, SWIFT OF HOOF, COME TO MY AID! We need you to go get- Marigold: It can wait until I am done posing.
Oh Marigold you silly. Now I hope this plan works and you don’t get turned in to bugs for real or caught in a food fight when no one wants to heat your lines or sent to detention for disrupting lunch time, or forget your lines, or loose your costumes on the way. I hope this makes you friends. At least until a boy comes between you breaks up your friend ship then you get dumped and become friends again and it goes on and off a while till you become friends for ever.
Hah, I am a geek! I had to look up the origin of the word ‘steed’ . . . “Old English steda – stallion, stud” In Middle English, ‘a spirited war horse’.
Not so. It meant “male horse” back before the Norman conquest, and then in the middle ages it meant “the sort of horse that only a manly man can ride”, but nowadays it just means something you can ride—in late Victorian days, it was even used to refer to a bicycle, though that meaning seems to have dried up and blown away.
As to the SHIELD OF BORINGNESS, remember it doesn’t make Marigold invisible, it just means that anyone who looks at her just reacts with a “Ho-hum! Another boring unicorn!”. As to Dakota, she was released from the SHIELD OF BORINGNESS last July, in order to rescue her from the TERRIBLE VORTEX OF MEH.
Sorry, but I plan to stick with the Oxford English Dictionary, which states outright that “steed” has not meant “male horse” for nearly a thousand years.

Marigold doesn’t get to do this in front of an audience /nearly/ as often as she wants. As she craves!

Gotta love unicorn narcissism; that’s how the whole comic strip got started.

Insert a non sequitur about equines here.

Great posing, Dana! : D Panel 3 should have its own soundtrack!
@ tudza2 Yes, she has – but don’t let her hear you say that, or she’ll be sniffing with disdain…

I hope Phoebe remembers not to include Marigold in the play, or the shield of boringness will ruin it all.

You tell them Marigold.

My OCD requires me to point out that, in panel #1, Phoebe’s right foot is drawn as a left foot.

Dakota not only knows about Marigold but wants a unicorn of her own. But she did find out the hard way that having a Unicorn isn’t always glamor.

Look closer: the big toe should be on the inside, not the outside.
