Phoebe: There are two lessons I could take from this. Lying is a bad idea, and I'm better off not doing it, or... I just need practice. Marigold: I feel you should- Phoebe: There's a bug on your tail. Marigold: WHERE?!? Marigold: Practice makes perfect.

Become a better liar, than you are ready for a career in politics. We had a spell of warm weather and my horse managed to find a dozen ticks, on his butt and in his tail. Just the kind of bug we all can appreciate.

Even Marigold’s scarf is quite alarmed.

Of course Phoebe should not be surprised when she has a lump of coal in her stocking December 25th. (I don’t think there will be a bundle of switches as that wouldn’t be congruent with her parent’s child development practices).

Phoebe, you’d better hope Marigold doesn’t respond in kind. To paraphrase an old commercial, “It’s not NICE to fool your Unicorn!”, to be followed closely by sturm und drang.

This past weeks storyline has added another layer of realism and complexity to Phoebe that’s just delightful.

Today’s comic is definitely an Ozy & Millie moment — although it would be Millie pranking Felicia.

Poor Phoebe… already sliding down the slippery slope… soon she’ll be getting body piercings, tramp stamp tattoos, hanging around with the bad boys and knocking over liquor stores for drug money… sob…

As C. S. Lewis points out, it took many centuries for Western civilization as a whole to get the idea that fiction and lies are different. That’s why so many medieval and Renaissance books start off with “I found this old book somewhere, and this is the story it tells.” Even Tolkien does it, though in his case it’s just for fun.
