I looked through the previous strips, and it doesn’t say which book Dakota did, so I’m gonna go out on a limb and headcanon it as Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie.

The best way to ensure a spoiler-free review, is to not know what the spoiler is.

Nothing says, “I’m better!” Than actually finishing a book.

When today’s strip first appeared in 2020, someone commented “Sweet revenge on Dakota.” I replied, “Sweet revenge can have a bitter aftertaste but not, I think, in this case. I think this will be a sweet ending to the story arc.” This proved to be the case.

Since then, I have seen an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents from 1960 in which Hitchcock commented, “I think I’ve worked out why revenge is so popular. It’s sweet without being fattening.” In another episode, Hitchcock commented that his show might still be repeated in 2000 and asked viewers from 2000 to write in and tell him what the future would be like. It’s still being repeated and will be for many years but 2000 now seems a long time ago in some ways. Hitchcock didn’t live to see 2000 as he died in 1980 when I was thirteen.

A B isn’t bad considering Dakota didn’t finish her book. A C- would have been more appropriate.

Too bad that Calvin’s teacher, Ms. Wormwood, doesn’t have that attitude regarding book reports, or school assignments in that regard.

I wonder what Dakota’s unfinished book was? “The happy-go-lucky story of a boy and his dog, called ‘Old Yeller’?”

It seems to me that if someone doesn’t even read the book ending, they shouldn’t earn more than a C.

I used to work in an elementary school library. Dakota not finishing her book, expecting to fool the teacher, and getting caught is accurate.

Only once did I report on a book (well, book series) without reaching the ending first. Had I gotten a bit further, I would have taken a different approach. I was still satisfied with my grade.
