Does Opal ever bother to look in the mirror before she goes out? Sweatpants would be the least of her worries!

I used to drive my mother crazy by almost always wearing sweat pants, as I thought it seemed wasteful to wear “proper” clothes that were uncomfortable.

I don’t think Earl can do beach pants. Thinner than sweats and with cool logos like Corona.

I hear ya, Earl. Oscar Wilde is quoted as saying, “Fashion is that form of dress so ugly that it must be changed twice a year.” Comfortable, clean and covered—that’s the way to go.

At least he didn’t figure “naked” was the most comfortable (which it is) and go out like that.

When I was a kid, older people wore “nice clothes” when going out in public or to visit relatives. For “nice,” read “stiff and uncomfortable.” It often included hats for both men and women and leather shoes. Even children wore their “good clothes.” I applaud the new, comfortable style of public clothing — especially shoes that flex and don’t pinch. I’d bet old people don’t have as many shoe-induced foot problems as they used to. I myself haven’t gotten to the sweat pants stage, yet, but I will — and to heck with what people will think.

I have to go with Opal on this one. When I wear sweats, they are for houseold use or exercise/sports. Besides a good pair of jeans is more than comfortable enough.

On “Seinfeld,” Jerry said to a sweatpants-wearing George, “When you wear those, you’re telling the world, ‘I give up. I’ll never be successful, so I might as well be comfortable.’”

No way! I’m thinking, “What a slob!!”It’s still possible to look respectable and comfortable at the same time. I’m so tired of people thinking it’s okay to wear pajamas, sweats, or any exercise clothes if you’re not at home or actually exercising.

    Warning

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer glovesAnd satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tiredAnd gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bellsAnd run my stick along the public railingsAnd make up for the sobriety of my youth.I shall go out in my slippers in the rainAnd pick flowers in other people’s gardensAnd learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fatAnd eat three pounds of sausages at a goOr only bread and pickle for a weekAnd hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dryAnd pay our rent and not swear in the streetAnd set a good example for the children. We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?So people who know me are not too shocked and surprisedWhen suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

well fitting clothes should always be comfortable. The problem here is that you don’t have time or money for a tailor, so you are uncomfortable in dress clothes.

Sweat pants at this keyboard, Cargoes tor the world and Jeans when it’s cold out there. Tossed the suits (except one) when I got my gold watch. The suit is my ‘funeral suit’ for friends and eventually, me.

whmIII: Maybe we should form a group to promote sanity! The last time I wore a suit was for the wedding of a cousin-in-law-once-removed. Someone mistook me for the minister.
