Too many cats? Is that even possible? For some people, sadly no.

It’s obvious that KZ71 never had any cats as pets. They make wonderful companions. And have very distinct personalities. Just like dogs.

The most cats I’ve ever had is 5, but 2 of those were my daughter’s, Master Cougar-Booger and Miss Phoenix Mew-Mew. I had Furby-in-the-Evening Gown, Happy Hopping Nibbler and Meathead the Black Beast.

We maxed out at 4, but every time one dies, there seems to be a “Vacancy” sign over the house – only visible to cats.

I’m more of a dog person, never more than 2 (except for puppies that I raised and sold as stock dogs). But any number of cats, as many as can keep busy patrolling the farmyard, are welcome, in the barn and outdoors. Rarely, one or two of those become pets.

@George Tirebiter That would be ‘The Clowder’ not ‘The Herd’.

My daughter-in-law had a cat known as psycho-kitty. It has calmed a little over the years, but not she has a puppy who is almost as psycho. Seeking puppy training.

I have two cats, and have had as many as three at a time. I would not live in a house without a cat. My boys are loving, friendly and happy – and independent little buggers, just as cats should be.

You can have too much of a good thing.

Although in my case, I would have too many dogs as I’m more of a dog person.

I would add that shortly after I was married, my wife and I visited her brother, and he and his wife had abut 500 cats. The sights and smells were truly more disgusting than words can describe. I heard that some sort of cat leukemia wiped them out a few years later, but I have never had any desire to visit them ever again.

We adopted a cat left behind by a neighbor that moved. We have a 2nd cat that stays outside which my daughter feeds. I told them if we got rid of the one cat in the house we can bring the other one in, they said no. I have one cat, one dog, and am happy with that.

The only cats I would ever have are Siamese. Elegant, intelligent, resourceful, and trainable. Understood at least 200 words and obeyed. Seems the others are more independent, and can’t even be taught simple things like don’t destroy the furniture. That’s why I love dogs (and Siamese cats).

I still remember the episode of the Simpson’s that showed the Crazy Cat Lady before cats. Kinda normal but a waaaay over the top achiever who wanted to de-stress. (hence, gatos).

The answer of course is in the numbers with the cats ahead.

    2012 AVMA pets owned countsDogs 69,926,000Cats 74,059,000

    2012 APPA pets owned countsDogs 83,300,000Cats 95,600,000

Cats being far less expensive to care for.

She may have toxoplasma. Who are we kidding? Of course Emily has it. Why would she be so attracted to cats?
