How would Opal tell Earl to change his hearing aid batteries if he also needed a pair of glasses?

my grandfather sometimes kept his hearing aid in his shirt pocket. my mom, who dared what most of us would not, pointed out how ridiculous this was by having a conversation with his shirt pocket.

That was a stupid question for Earl to ask.

My dad got $4,000 hearing aids years ago. I walked into their apartment and said to him, “hi dad, how are your new hearing aids working?” He said, “WHAT?!” I repeated the question, he then told me “very well thank you!”

I don’t think a hearing aid will help. It won’t cure stupid.

When one of my hearing aid batteries becomes low, its hearing aid announces that. Then when it finally “fails”, the hearing aid announces that (or emits a special tone) too — actually, by opening and closing the battery compartment, I can usually get another 5 or 10 minutes out of it, less each time, if I’m without a replacement.Don’t all hearing aids do the equivalent of that?Maybe Earl needs a new wax guard instead.

Opal could easily slide into a customer service kind of employment position, where the motto is, “It’s always MY fault.” For example, when someone is late to the airport and misses their flight and then screams at the customer service agent that the plane left too early or the customer was there 2 minutes before it closed (but was NOT) and the agent closed it too early. On the other hand, if the plane is late, for whatever reason, then the customer service agent ALWAYS does this and “Every time I fly on such-and-such airline, this ALWAYS happens!” Blah, blah, blah.
