Sometimes I think my cats are playing this game with me. They don’t hiss, but they stare out the window, acting excited and when I go to look out to try to see what they’re looking at, they turn around and look at me and I can almost hear them say, “Ha ha! Made you look!”
An old Far Side cartoon had one dog saying to the other, with old lady reading in the armchair, “You wanna have some fun, Fred? Watch … I’m gonna go over and stare and growl at the closet door.”
My cat was staring out the window in our back door one night. She suddenly hissed, spat, and ran away. I glanced over, and a raccoon had its front paws and face pressed against the window looking in.
It could be Muffin’s reflection in the window. Usually when the light shows the reflection, the cat sees themselves which is why Muffin is having a hissy fit.
No, no, no Brian … cat’s growl first, call it an high decibel purr, if you wish. Then they suddenly and unexpectedly leap, all four legs splayed, claws fully extended, teeth bared, and screaming like a banshee. I’ll train yours for a small fee.
Drama is always more about the actor than the act.
It is fun to express yourself with emphasis in a contest of words and thoughts but true enjoyment is the product of not having to pee so bad you have enough focus to speak and act.

Our cat has gone deaf. We freak him out when we come up behind him.

If they want to freak out the cat, put Pop Rocks in her litter box!

Opal, there is something ominous lurking about. It’s inside your house and it’s a cat.

this is just a variation of the “did you hear a noise – it sounds like a prowler” crap they pull once you’re in bed

My cat did that one night near an open window, and we were rewarded with skunk spray!

Muffin, as most cats, craves attention once in a while!

My theory thatijustmadeup: Cats live in a dimension with blurred borders. They occasionally see trans-dimensional creatures traveling through.

Cats have no sense of humor, or mine would be rolling on the floor laughing at me…

Like the one with the two dogs. One telling the other, “Watch how they act when I growl and stare at the closet.”
