Make sure to drag ‘em into the house if they fall backwards.

While you at it check the thermostat on the heater and touch all the knobs on the stove to make sure they are all off. Is the light still on the smoke detector and did you let the cat out? Toilet seat down and the clock alarm set I think your ready to hit it! Goodnight John Boy, goodnight Mary Ellen, goodnight Mama, goodnight Erin, goodnight Ben, goodnight Jim-Bob…”

My husband and I don’t have a problem remembering to lock the back door at night because our dog gets taken out last thing before bed so locking it when we come back in is something we automatically do when that deed is done.

However … we have been known in the past to forget and leave our garage door open all night and not realized it until the next morning! Thankfully nothing bad has ever happened because of that forgetfulness but it’ll sure make your heart skip a beat when you realize what you’ve accidentally done and what could have happened. So, at the end of every day, one of us always checks to make sure the garage door is down before we go to bed for the night.

My wife does this. She was always locking me out accidently. So I replace the deadbolts with electronic, keypad, WiFi-controllable locks.
